  2. DESIGNER'S CLUB GIF IMAGES  USER'S  GUIDE
  3. ---------------------------------------
  4. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to use your 
  5. computer and the programs you have purchased for it, and how to create Web 
  6. pages.
  7.  
  8. Each Designer's Club issue will now include 32 images in GIF format for use on 
  9. the World Wide Web. Six of these files will be animated GIF images. These images 
  10. are found in a folder called "Web Images."
  11.  
  12. Each issue will include a mix of small images, perfect for buttons, and larger 
  13. images for spot art. Web-safe colors assure clean color on Mac or PC - no 
  14. dithering, no color shifts. File sizes and palettes are minimized for fast 
  15. downloading.

  17. Each image has up to three versions: one that can be used on any background, one 
  18. optimized for a white background, and when appropriate for the style of the art, 
  19. one optimized for a black background. Full transparency means no unsightly 
  20. background box.

  22. NUMBERING SYSTEM
  23. -----------------
  24. Designer's Club has changed its numbering system due to the greater number of 
  25. files now on disk.
  26. Each GIF image file will have a number "001" through to "032." This will repeat 
  27. itself for
  28. each monthly issue. 
  29. "A" following the number means it can be used on any background (for 
  30. example,001A9801.GIF). 
  31. "B" following the number means it can be used on a black background
  32. (for example,001B9801.GIF).
  33. "W" following the number means it can be used on a white background
  34. (for example,001W9801.GIF).

  36. "A" preceding the number means it is animated. (For example, A01A9801.GIF 
  37. would be an animated file that could be used on any background; 
  38. A01B9801.GIF would be an animated file that could be used on a black 
  39. background.)
  40. The "9801" at the end of the file name is the year and month.

  42. When searching for images in the Fetch catalog, if you know you're designing on 
  43. a black background, you may, for example, type BLACK BACKGROUND as a keyword.  
  44. Then press "Find" to view the thumbnails fitting that description.

  46. SEE THE ANIMATED IMAGES IN ACTION
  47. ----------------------------------
  48. To see how the images have been animated, open the folder titled with the 
  49. month/year followed by HTML (for example: 0198HTML represents the Jan. 98 
  50. folder). You will see a document titled: DC0198.HTM. If you have Netscape 
  51. Navigator, you may simply double click the file to open it. From the FILE menu 
  52. of Internet Explorer select LOAD FILE to open that file. In other Web browser 
  53. programs, follow your normal procedures for opening html documents. You will 
  54. then be presented with an animated index of all six images.
